So yesterday I explained how the terrible disease forms, now onto what it does - but in more depth.
Cancer is a horrific disease, basically eating you from the inside out. Like I said yesterday, it spreads; multiplies throughout your whole body - killing your 'healthy' cells. This obviously killing you at the same time, its like taking a block of Jenga out, it makes everything less stable and more likely to 'fall', or in our case death.
Cancer turns your own body against you, taking over healthy cells and causing them to attack you. Like a zombie apocalypse basically, your friend could be mutated then he will try to kill you.
Cancer makes your immune system less effective, and destroys your platelet count (these basically form 'scabs') so if you cut your skin, you could bleed out, and keep on bleeding until well... we know. It also makes your red blood cell count drop and can lead to heart attacks; big ones. Cancers like colon and ovarian literally block out your excretion zone, so you know where that leads. And cancers such as lung cancer erode into vital arteries and even block your bronchus, lung cancer can make it hard to breathe, in some cases stops you breathing and finally thyroid cancer will kill you by basically strangling you slowly and painfully. The disease is horrific.
Reading these symptoms makes it sound like a fiction horror disease, when - its not.
Its real.
Around half of cancer patients die from lack of food; malnutrition. When they get the disease they eat a lot less than they originally did. This is cause the tumor will 'suppress' your appetite by producing something called 'cachectin'. And sometimes treatments such a chemo or radiotherapy can cause anorexia, leading to malnutrition and also death.
Sometimes even the cure is the killer.
There are many types of cancer so it's hard to say what it does, it all depends on where it is located. Curious - Google it, that should provide you with answers. From testicular to thyroid, breast to brain - cancer can cover almost anywhere on your body. The fight against it is getting bigger, and we are pushing through more and more, the cure for lots of types of cancers is just around the corner - the only trouble however... is getting there.
Thanks for reading, Ben.
